The NCNM Press strives with its titles to recognize historical and contemporary best practices in environmental, global health, and sustainability research and history.

As National College of Natural Medicine transforms, there arises the need for a university press to capture the broad front of new knowledge about natural medicine and planetary sustainability being sought by an increasingly eager, inter-professional audience of scholars, teachers, students and patients. We created NCNM Press to provide a voice and channel for those writers and readers. NCNM Press aspires to be the most reliable source of medical literature, scholarship and research related to natural medicine and holistic health systems in the world. The Press has already begun encouraging and modeling publication and inquiry on a remarkable medley of important topics related to physical, mental, spiritual and planetary health. The initial titles from NCNM Press are itemized in this inaugural catalog. The Press is introducing an exciting, new dimension of scholarship and education from NCNM as we begin our sixtieth year!

NCNM is a medical college first and foremost. We publish distinctive titles that enrich the history, clinical practice and contemporary significance of the natural medicine traditions. But NCNM Press is also committed to producing literature that speaks to the invaluable goal of protecting the health of our planet, a mission as much about the plants, animals and living organisms that share our biosphere and provide our sustenance as it is about the well-being of the people.

Take a few moments to check out the first 11 publications from NCNM Press. Our Press is earning a reputation as the go-to source for knowledge about the historical and contemporary best practices in environmental, global health, nutrition research—and much more.

A whole new way of seeing the world is just inside those pages.

The effectiveness of IVS volunteers subsequently led to the creation of a number of other international volunteer agencies, including the Peace Corps.

Nature Doctors

by Friedhelm Kirchfeld and Wade Boyle

$24.95

Modern naturopathic medicine can look back on a proud tradition that has its roots in the European nature cure movement of the 19th century. This absorbing history of the movement honors the pioneers who called for a return to nature and her remedies: water, air, light, a vegetarian diet, fasting and herbs. They offered a true alternative to the drugging abuses, heroic bloodletting procedures, and the therapeutic nihilism prevailing at that time.

Hevert Collection: Philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine

$27.95

In choosing the philosophy of naturopathic medicine, the naturopath recognizes that nature is inherently wise— and that abiding by its laws, we can reinforce and sustain physical and mental health. The naturopathic movement was founded by pioneer Benedict Lust and led by him through 50 years of publishing advocacy and patient care.

Hevert Collection: Dietetics of Naturopathic Medicine

$27.95

What we choose to eat is arguably the most important factor in producing and sustaining health. Diet was a cornerstone for the early naturopaths as they charted a course for health reform. This volume is a review of the writings of these early naturopaths who scrupulously examined and documented the role of diet and food. As important today as when these pioneers first brought forward their discoveries into clinical practice, their dietetic knowledge is a precious resource for the modern naturopath.

Hevert Collection: Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

$27.95

The six contemporary naturopathic principles began as 12 in 1902. This book helps contemporary naturopaths understand how their principles transformed over time. Understanding the roots and evolution of the naturopathic principles is critical to ensure the success and unique character of naturopathic medical practice.

Hevert Collection: Practice of Naturopathic Medicine

$27.95

Hevert Collection: Vaccination Naturopathic Medicine

$27.95

The topic of vaccination is fraught with intrigue and complexities. Since vaccinations' first appearance in Western medicine, the controversy between those warning of its dangers and those espousing its utility has endured. Perhaps no professional body has been more consistent in articulating its concerns than the naturopaths of the early 20th century. Indeed, the issue of vaccination safety and efficacy has a special place in the history of naturopathy not only because of the strong energies, convictions and polarities it conjures, but also because the very issue galvanized the early naturopaths and helped shape the profession.

~~~~~~
I had recently become interested in Naturopathic medicine which is a distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. For Christmas, my wife gave me "The Origins of Naturopathic Medicine," the first volume in a 12-volume series entitled The Hevert Collection: In their Own Words. You may think that the two gifts are totally unrelated, but I understood exactly why my wife linked them. "The Origins of Naturopathic Medicine," a historical overview of the influential years of the naturopathic profession, drawn directly from Benedict Lust’s journals published between 1900 and 1923, was to accompany me to our mountain cabin retreat the week after Christmas. This retreat was not just about solitude and introspection, but also about embracing the healing power of nature, which mirrors the principles of naturopathy.
Just as water is a fundamental element of naturopathic treatments, promoting healing and wellness, I was reminded of another form of water's therapeutic use when I stumbled upon above ground pools by RoyalPoolsAndSpas.com. This connection was intriguing as it offered a modern and accessible means to engage with hydrotherapy, a practice deeply rooted in naturopathic traditions. The soothing effects of water have been well-documented, and the ease with which one can now install an above-ground pool facilitates the regular practice of water-based therapies at home. It was a poignant reminder of how ancient practices can be seamlessly integrated into our contemporary lifestyle, aiding the self-healing process.
The book would be my companion during the evenings, not next to the warmth of a down-filled coat, but by the wood burning stove or in front of the fireplace. The contrast between the cold, crisp air outside and the warmth of the cabin would be stark, yet each has its place in the healing journey—much like the contrast between the still, reflective surface of a pool and the dynamic flow of a mountain stream. Update: I am now reading volume five and looking forward to the rest of the volumes now that they are all published.
